A homeowner in West Jacksonville wanted a durable, decorative floor for their children’s rec room. Decorated with Coca-Cola memorabilia, they wanted red and white. Since it was mostly used by the kids and their friends, they wanted an option that would be required little maintenance. Rhino’s FastFloor product was the perfect choice. They chose a custom color, adding black to the red and white chips for accent. It came out beautifully and will provide the family with years of enjoyment. This front porch coating was in good shape, but the gray coloring really fought the color of the house and door. We ground it off and put in a color that coordinates much better.

Thanks to Mr. C in Jacksonville for stopping by our booth and, ultimately, deciding on Rhino Pro Floors to upgrade a failing epoxy floor. Below, you can clearly see what we mean when we talk about hot tire peel:

Home & Patio Show floor boards are done!

Rhino Pro Floors will be at the Jacksonville Home & Patio Show, Sept. 30th through Oct. 3. We just finished coating the 3’ x 5’ boards that will become our booth floor at the show. Football is a religion here in the south, and with it being in full swing during this show, we focused on some Jacksonville favorites. Certainly you can all figure out which teams will be represented!

Pool Bath Transformation

A client called us looking for something to put on the floor in a pool bath. He did not want to deal with grout, and was concerned about people slipping. FastFloor, with it’s monolithic installationa and high coefficient of friction, was the perfect choice. In just two and a half hours, the floor was installed, and by dinner time, it will be ready to have the fixtures installed.

T’s Learning Center Update…It’s Done!

Rhino Pro Floors has been done there for a while, but I waited for all the other trades to be done before I went and took the “after” photos. It all came out great, and it is really a first class facility. If I had children, believe me, they’d be going there until they were old enough for school!

Another Garage Transformation

Thanks to Mrs. W. for allowing us to transform her garage. The area is used primarily for practicing tap dance. The original black and white, peel and stick tile was no match for tap shoes. The tiles were dirty, scratched and loose. Rhino Pro Floors came in and turned it into a showpiece, providing a fabulous surface that will hold up to any steps they can lay down!

We were able to complete three classrooms at the new T’s on Monument Road. Below are some of the pictures. The lighting is terrible, I’ll post better pictures when the place is cleaned up a bit and has electricity!

Nav-Air Offices now Flight Ready!

Nav-Air on Naval Station Mayport had two offices in dire need of some attention. They were both tiled (horribly). The tiles were cracked, impossible to keep clean and, in many places, no longer stuck to the concrete, creating a trip hazard.

Rhino Pro Floors was contacted to remove the old floor, and give them a seamless, easy to maintain and good looking floor. Sandstone chips of a beige base was the color of choice.

Today T’s Learning Center IV chose Rhino Pro Floors to provide them with over 4,000 square feet of FastFloor in the cafeteria and hallways. Their current locations have VCT (vinyl composition tile), but the chore and expense of constant re-waxing prompted them to take a look at other alternatives.

They have chosen a gloss finish with 1/16” custom color chips, consisting of white, gray and dark purple.

The owner, Theresa, has been great to work with. I met her at one of her currently open locations, and I’ve got to say the facilities are impressive. If you’re in the Jacksonville area, and have a need for early childhood development (this place has way too much to be just day care!), you should really check them out!

Sunset before sunset!

Another case of a garage floor that looked horrible due to years of oil and other fluids leaking from the cars. In less than eight hours, we transformed this abused concrete into a beautiful showpiece. We used sunset chips over a terracotta base and finished up by 3:00, over four and a half hours before sunset!

A Garage in Granite

Yesterday saw an wonderful transformation of a garage from a dull concrete to a glossy, wonderful, granite look. The new granite chips over a gray base made the garage sparkle like a new kitchen counter top. Of course, this is a floor that will hold up to the heavy activity of a garage.

From “what the?” to “WOW!”

Whoever thought garage carpet was a good idea was absolutely wrong! The homeowner contacted us because they just couldn’t keep the carpet clean from dirt, leaves and sand. Plus, there is just no way carpet can hold up to automobile tires!

We ripped up the carpet, then had to scrap the glue residue. When we tried to just grind it, the heat turned the residue into a sticky, gunky mess. Cleanup did extend the job to two days, but I think you will all agree the end result was worth it!

Screened Porch Transformation

We've Moved!

Our new location on Beach Blvd. is more easily accessible and has been a real boost to our visibility. We are located inside Abbey Carpet and Floor, on the north side of Beach Blvd., between Hodges and San Pablo. The name of the strip center is Taylor Plaza and is easy to spot.

If you are heading east on Beach, turn left at the first light then right into the strip center parking lot. We are in the middle of the east building. If you are heading west on Beach, turn directly into our parking lot immediately following Atlantic Self Storage.

Business is moving along!

Sorry for the delay in updating the blog, business has been moving along at a quicker pace every week though! We have secured one new Navy Job, bid three others, and are currently under contract for two residential garages.

I've got pictures of the last Navy job, our largest to date. They wanted white, which proved to have many challenges, but we conquered them all and they are thrilled with the end result. I'll get them posted soon!

The second, is we start another job on Naval Station Mayport today. We'll start by grinding the concrete, filling the chips and cracks, taping off the installation area, and protecting the walls. Tomorrow we'll be applying the tinted base coat (beige) and adding the paint chips (sandstone) before spreading the durable clear top coat. Stay tuned for pictures!

Our first big ad!!!

I don't usually post twice in a day, but we just got the proof for our first big advertising campaign. We are doing a full page in two zones in the Money Pages magazine! The only change being made to this proof is the addition of "Free Estimates".

The lines on the coupons got a little off during the conversion to .jpg. Rest assured they are all there and in the right places on the actual proof.

Patio in the Arlington area of Jacksonville

Last week we met with a homeowner worried about mold and mildew affecting the flooring on their patio. The patio had an outdoor carpet installed, which continually got wet during rainstorms.

I showed them the color selection and explained the benefits of the product. Being a non-porous product that is bonded directly to the concrete, it is impossible for moisture to penetrate the surface. When I explained this, along with the stain, durability and slip resistant properties of the product, they became our most recent clients!

We arrived at 9:30 am on Friday, July 17, 2009. After ripping up the carpet, we had a floor that looked like this:

We got down to business grinding the floor to open up the pores of the concrete. FastFloor penetrates these pores, creating a bond that epoxy could never match!

Here is the result of the grinding, a beautifully prepared subfloor!

There was a settling crack visible after we ground off the carpet glue. We treated this with the Rhino Crack Fill Extreme. From a liquid with consistency of milk to a grindable solid in just under ten minutes!

The homeowner also wanted their brick step done, so we used the crack fill to level out the mortar joints.

After this was all done, the terra cotta colored base coat was rolled on and we broadcast in Mojave colored paint chips.

Two hours later, I checked to make sure we had proper coverage, bonding and curing. Sure enough, it was read to go!

So we put on the top coat, giving a nice glossy, durable surface any homeowner would be proud of!

Sorry for the difference in picture color, but that's what happens when one picture is taken with you back to the sun, and the other facing it! The homeowner is thrilled with their new floor, and we were happy to help beautify their home.

Shower's Done!

It was quite the adventure, but it is done.

Here is what it looked like before we started:

Doesn't look too bad from afar, but look a bit closer:

The tile isn't even grouted! On top of that, the pan was in such poor shape, the tile wasn't even properly adhered:

This lead to a shower that, to say the least, was not very sanitary:

So, the ripout began:

I don't know who mudded the shower pan originally, but they should never be allowed to do another one. The mud bed was incorrectly sloped, had trowel marks throughout and was pitted. Without a total ripout and repour, making it perfect was impossible. Since this shower cannot be out of commission for a week, we went to work with massive amounts of patch:

And a special hardening crack & divot fill:

Here she is, all ready....

And, the final product! Looks great, and will be easy to keep clean!

In the Navy!

We started our first job on Naval Station Mayport today. We are doing a 9x15 shower in the fitness center. Today we ripped out the tile that was on the floor and used a portland based patch to make the subfloor nice and smooth.

Tomorrow morning, we'll lay down a gray base coat and add in the Caribbean colored quartz crystals. After allowing it to cure for two hours, we'll clean up all the extra crystals and lay down the top gloss coat. The following day, I'll go in and caulk all the drains, and it will be done.
